2020 Projects
This year will show the knowledge of designing for additive manufacturing, GD&T, redesigning complex elements, and the understanding of sheet metal and weldments.
Freedom Design
This project required one to create a moving part that will be printed all in one. This means the part in question must be able to move once removed from the build plate of the 3D printer. This displays the knowledge of additive manufacturing and designing for ready to use application. The part made using PLA was created using the CR-10 while ABS was made using the Dimension 1200.
Fork Cast to Weldment
This shows a casting being onverted it to a weldment with the same purpose. This project shows the understanding of basic GD&T, the use of welds and machined parts and the intergration of different manufacturing processes.
Sheet Metal
This will display the basic understanding of constructing sheet metal and creating a drawing to engineering standard.
Kuka Arm and Welding Station
For this project one was giving step files of the Kuka and was required to assemble it with complete motion. After the completion of the assembly, one was required to create a welding station as depicted on slide 1. The next assignment was to create a hand for the Kuka for the company did not have a way to transport the weld to and from the weld station. This can be viewed on slides 3-5.
Solar Panel
The objective was to create a turning solar panel that will follow the sun. This project required one to only use 2 servo motors to operate it. This was done with two different sub-assemblies with full motion which can be seen on slide 3.
Heavy Machinery
Using a brochure one reversed engineered a heavy machinery as depicted in slide one. In the brochure it gave the machines range of motion and its dimensions. From this information the reversed engineered mahined was creaed closeto the same exact thing anda as close as possible to scale. This will show the ability to reconstruct a machine and or tools in a CAD environment with limited information.
Raven Kart
The brake system was not engineered the therefore one needed to redesign the brake system of the Go Kart. In slide one it will show how the original frame of the kart and the brake system required one to pull a lever that would press a plate on the tires until it stopped. This assignment required one to use a disc brake system and to also include a centrifugall clutch that would be attached to the engine. In slide 2 it will show the new kart assembled and in slides 3-4 it will show the newly created rear axle and brake system.
